"I bet UPS still watches it closely !!
USPS shipping is a lesser % no? Most is UPS?"
I do not buy from Amazon. I do not know their shipper of choice.

Amazon is very smart about shipping. They use the USPS as much as they can (unless you pay for fedex or the premium options). They use USPS "media mail" for CDs which is an ultra cheap flavor of USPS. I'm sure they continue to make money on shipping whether standard or premium. The downside is the consumer does not get speedy delivery if they choose the std shipping option from amzn. If it says "7-10 day delivery", I can assure you it will take the full 10 days.

The good news for amzn with this dotcom implosion is the state sales tax issue seems to have gone away.

PS Glenn why do you think amzn US business is flat? I'll bet this xmas season rocks and eclipses last year.
