The reality is that Clinton did nothing to help or hurt the economy. Bush did nothing to help or hurt the economy. Bush 41 did nothing to help or hurt the economy. Economic cycles happen.

I took a number of advanced eco. classes and disagree with your premise. You don't have to agree with me but you can accept we disagree on this subject like we do with everything else.

In the meantime you'd better hope that I am right and you are wrong because otherwise the Bushes could turn out to be two time losers in the second term category.

Nonsense. Bush the elder courageously went about repairing the damage done by Reagan, who shattered the nations financial condition with horrific deficit spending. Clinton showed similar courage by maintaining the prudent, if somewhat painful policies established by the first Bush. Bush the younger stalled the economy by pre-announcing his awful economic policies then tanked it completely by doing what he said he'd do.

Re: But I do seem to recall something about how ANYTHING government does will take 18 months to affect the economy

You're confusing interest rate changes (monetary policy) with "anything". Fiscal policy, such as spending and tax changes, have impacts the day they are implemented.

There is also the very key issue of "leadership", in which the attitudes of people can be modified, sometimes very quickly, which also has a very big impact on the economy.
