What do you make of today's data?

"The latest economic data showed that manufacturing activity in the U.S. mid-Atlantic region turned negative in August, retreating further from weak levels in July and raising fresh concerns about the key factory sector and the shaky U.S. economic recovery.

The Federal Reserve ( news - web sites) Bank of Philadelphia said its business conditions index dropped to minus 3.1 in August from plus 6.6 in July, its first negative reading this year. Economists had expected the index to edge up to 7.2 in August. A reading below zero indicates contraction."
