You did not need to go to the Mideast to see Arabs cheering, you only needed to go as far as Paterson, NJ. I understand there was quite a celebration going on until others from a variety of backgrounds decided to put an end to it. I understand the police had to put an end to it.

Then Nasser and King Hussein announced that they only lost the war because the US Sixth Fleet was fighting for Israel. This was a Big Lie but the whole Arab world believed it and turned against us and even more towards the USSR. That sounds like quite a victory for Nasser and Hussein. Perhaps we can learn a lesson from that. PR can go a long way. The war on terrorism cannot be won with military force. Violence will create more terrorists. It is similar to everyday life. Perceptions of what you are more effective than what you do. If the US were to make a significant shift in its foreign policy towards a VIABLE Palestinian state without all the pre conditions and without the fixation on losing Arafat there would be a change in the Arab view of the US. Viable means water rights too. The perception that the US is acting as an Israeli puppet has to be changed. Israel has been retaliating against terrorists for years and it just creates more terrorists. Nurturing hatred is not the way to go. Zeuspaul
