There is no such phrase in the Constitution. It's in the Declaration of Independence:


We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.


The Declaration of Independence was interpreted quite astutely by Mencken:

It's always the same BS. Color,language,etc has nothing to do with any thing. It's not a mystery why this is always brought up by the pro immigration people. Like a self righteous smoke screen , a not so veiled threat of calling their opponents racists.

It's the inevitable problems caused my more and more of us ,especially Americans who represent only 5% of the worlds population but produce 20% of the worlds pollution and use of natural resources.

Of course Malthus was right . Technology has only postponed the out come.
