Perhaps, the most serious flaw in America today is the concept of different, but equal ideologies. This country is much more fragmented today than in the beginning. There is no question that some ideologies are superior to others. What is in question is not the legality of individuals having opposing viewpoints to the mainstream thought, but the pampering of minority ideologies which are often dangerous or un-American or both. The greatest danger is always underestimating an opponent. So while civility is useful in reasoning with others in a public discourse there are always those who will remain unreasonable and it is both foolish and dangerous to abdicate to such people.

We must maintain the distinction between a traitor and a jerk, otherwise, anyone we disagree with on foreign poliy is a traitor, and there is an end to democratic debate....
