Didn't think of google for this one. I thought I needed a new modem since the problem did not occur with prior computers.

I hope it's not the line service. A couple of years ago, the phone company changed the pole wires that made my line 2 because intermittently, rain would make the line useless for a day or two. Where I live is an old area and is the end of the line for both phone and electric and both services have problems.

OT: As to the electric service -- My house is 8 years old and I was going through a lot of light bulbs. An electrician told me that being at the end of the line made the voltage more variable and was burning out the filaments faster. He recommended higher voltage bulbs that were hardier and could absorb these fluctuations. It has indeed made a difference to use the higher quality bulbs. To test the theory, I keep an outside bulb on 24/7 that was always burning out. It's been on now for well over 6 months.

Oh well. . .

do you or anyone here know how to block adds from chat rooms? can this be done by creating a rule thru norton firewall?

I'm back again with yet another problem!
Four times in the last 20 minutes I have had a box pop up on my screen that says:
Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and must close. We are sorry for the inconvenience
It gives me the option to "send error report" or not send it.
No matter which one I choose, IE closes and then reopens.
Do I have a problem?
Also I have received the same e-mail five times from someone I know in the last 2 days. I have been unable to get in touch with the person to see what the deal is.
