Re: Hammer presentation, with some new info:

Not bad for 6 months work. They appear to have inherited the DEC/VAX/Alpha legacy in toto - including the planned run at enterprise servers. Makes the 32-chips-connected-with-baling-wire / can't-scale-now-and-never-will approach of Itanic look pretty pathetic.

Joe, re: "Platform Conference Hammer presentation, new one, with some new info"

Thanks for the link. I think there is a lot of new information to contemplate.

Hammers in blade servers?

When discussing memory latency in n-way systems there is a nice little note: "Assumes 2.4GHz processor."

In case others don't know about it, here is the main page for the "Platform Conference" (July 2002) on the Hypertransport site (from where you provided you link):

hypertransport.org

Not sure if there is any new information in all of the presentations (other than the one you linked to) but there are a ton of them, including:

"AMD's Vision of a 64-bit Future"
hypertransport.org

"Designing A Thin & Light Notebooks With AthlonXP"
hypertransport.org

"AMD's x86-64 Technology: Extending the x86 ISA to 64-bits"
hypertransport.org

(and the one you linked to)
"The AMD HyperTransport-based Opteron Processor"
hypertransport.org

Plus presentations from a host of other companies in the consortium...

FWIW,
