I hope you're right. One element in the developing picture that has gotten more emphasis in the Israeli and European Press (covered in the Financial Times, which N reads) is that GWB is increasingly hostage to his original bellicosity. Won't he be afraid of looking like a blowhard if he does nothing now, after all the threats? Face is important in US politics, too.
