Jorj I agree with you that "the main supporters of this proposal have a vested interest in encouraging the African-American population to view themselves as victims as well as keeping the flames between race relations fanned." But one thing studying and teaching philosophy has taught me is that well-meaning and intelligent people can take wildly different positions on an issue, positions I would not have thought a well-meaning or intelligent person could take. It is considered ungracious to say they are not well-meaning because their position is different than mine.

--African-American population -

i believe we lose something when we even call them hyphenated-americans... i know that as pale as i may be, i'm in no way shape or form, european-american... especially if a person is born here will they be simply american-american, like it or not....

and why are so many of them with yellow or tan skin calling themselves 'african'... as though they're ashamed of any other blood they may have....

european schmeuropean... african schmafrican... chinese schminese... if they're born here they're american... and people had better learn to deal with that...

this whole reparations thing is to paraphrase... wiggity wiggity whacked... when are we going to stop treating certain groups like children and let them 'grow up' and participate in american life?...
