David its a matter of trust. They don't trust Bush and imagine that he is using this proposal to just clear cut more forest.

It is bizarre. Where I live forestry is the major industry. No one here questions the value of the technique in preventing the loss of forests due to fire.

So the environmentalists would rather give up forests to fire, which is clearly happening on a widespread basis, at times almost daily, than to allow Bush to try a technique that may save these forests.

This must be one of the most illogical positions in recent memory. It does seem to have a political feel to it. If it IS about trust, truly, then Bush has lost the environmentalists PR battle...
