Both HD and LOW benefit from both new purchase and upgrade homebuyers. That is why their growth trend has been positive for several years now, on top of the fact that they both continue to capture a larger share of the overall homebuilding market. As to the trend in new homebuying, I am not positive but it is my understanding that this has begun to slow.

I personally believe that we may be entering a real estate bubble. The question to ask yourself is whether you could afford to purchase the home you now live in.

I believe much of the strength of these companies comes from the fact that they benefit from both the new purchaser and the homeowner who is upgrading. It would be interesting if someone did a study on the percentage of income these companies derived from both groups.
