well, even with low interest rate, can you imagine buying a 1000 sq ft condo in a suburb of Boston for $300k? the problem with places like Boston is that the price increase outpaced the lowered interest rates, inflation and salary increases *combined*. i can see that condos linger on the market much longer than last year. the monthly mortgage after a 20% down is also substantially higher than renting the same unit. so why bother buying when you can rent? by the way, boston's current apartment vacancy rate is supposedly the highest in the past decade.
