You didn't say what you thought about this situation, nor what you thought the US could do about it...


You'll have to help me here. I'm not certain just what you are talking about. If you mean the WSJ article I posted, then I agree. And what I agree about is that these practices by which males in any social setting physically abuse females and claim some justification by an appeal to something called "their culture" are reprehensible.

Unfortunately, that practice happens globally, within social settings which involve a great many different religious traditions: they happen at all levels of privilege--the instance of spousal abuse in this country in levels of distinct privilege is alarming; etc.

What should be done. Well, it's something that's been on the table of feminism for a very long time. I don't see much sympathy for feminism around here. There is the mistaken belief that it's a left wing phenom and thus gets no respect from the righties that populate SI. It's wrong to think so, but that little paragraph will not produce a change in anyone's convictions.
