Hi KLP; Yeah, I was out of line. But the fact is that on 9/11, I thought that there was a chance that WW3 had started, and I as damned sure that I wasn't going to waste our country's oil supplies ferrying my kids to soccer games. Far better to let the people who are in the military, police, etc., fill their gas tanks than me.

War is a serious thing. If we do have to take down the Arab middle east (which is the risk that unilateralism holds for us as surely as we would have had to take down the whole of Southeast Asia if we'd wanted to keep the government of South Vietnam propped up), we're going to go through stuff that makes the inconvenience of gasoline rationing look like Christmas.

I don't think it's going to happen. But if it does, I can tell you one thing, and that is that this nation is never going to go to war with an unfair draft again. This time it will be the children of the yuppies that are forced to learn to kill and to get by with no legs.
