Thank you for clarifying. I think you make an extremely valid point, but reasons/motivations behind it may not be entirely accurate. I believe that when anyone, thing, organization etc. attempts to use force to control others that it results in immediate polarization unless you've first established trust and a satisfactory relationship. Likewise, if you're 'Johnny come lately' with a disruptive technology that has not built enough relationships, you're going to see powers align immediately against you. What's worse is if a lot of your power suddenly decreases (Dems lose the election). It is simply the laws of the universe or what some will call human nature. Patents work well for incumbents, however, for the new little guy, he may find that they simply motivate greater innovation/competition/snake oil (to escape the toll) simply because they indicate potential value. Furthermore, if there are any substitutes and the incumbents control the industry to a great degree, there are ways in stretching out the adoption. Unfortunately for QCOM equity fans, the bar has already been raised to a ridiculous level and hence, except for the most seasoned of investors (that haven't become addicted to adrenaline), so may have expectations.

"verdad: Thank you for your detailed and accurate reply."

Please allow me to clarify and be pedantic...queuecom, how do you KNOW if my reply is accurate? If you're willing to take a risk, I'm sure you're doing your own research, but my opinion is exactly that. And it has as much emotion as the next human being's. Likewise, there is a case to be made for Q's advantages and eventual success and there are reasons to pee in the cereal bowl. Please do not not take my opinion or anyone elses' as gospel. There is a lot out there that no one, but no one knows how will turn out. And if they do KNOW, its illegal. Cheers,
