Yousef,

AMD will be outsourcing their cheap chips.
They will be using their Dresden plant for their best chips.

Intel is wasting resources to fabricate cheap chips.
These resources could be used for their best chips.

Make it so,
Mysef

Yousef,
You raise good points. I really have no insight into the foundry sector and need the feedback to understand. I don't think in terms of AMD only but of all the other recent partnerships.... Phillips, moto, ti, ect. Many engineers giving process knowledge. I think sometimes given enough dots anyone can draw a line...that is my concern and it's a 5 to 10 year type of shift I'm worried about.

My perception of foundries is that they are backed by governments in some cases and pride and ego in delivering the best is subsidized so normal business models don't always apply.

I guess I need something else to be paranoid about. I don’t feel good about the future of semiconductor manufacturing in the US so I will think more about short-term issues.

Thank you.

Yousef, A good analysis of the dangers of outsourcing CPU manufacturing!

Well articulated argument!! In my opinion, a volume high-performance CPU vendor
ceases to be one as soon as they outsource their CPU manufacturing.
Cyrix is a good example but there are several others.
