Lets see how righteous you are when your sons and mine are called to defend this icon of our culture. Perhaps then when they may have to add to the sacrifices our citizens have made for this right you may question if there was any other way.

I agree we all have the right to drive what we want as long as we are willing to pay. But the truth is our sons will likely not be paying the price. It will be the sons and daughters of families with lesser means who probably could not afford an SUV.

My argument is that oil is priced on the margin, the demand margin is within our control, and the supply demand is in the control of primarily Saudia Arabia. Our ability to influence ME politics would be greatly enhanced if the felt that we would take some action to dramatically reduce demand. Also the real price of imported oil should reflect the defense costs involved.

I see plenty of very wealthy people, probably like you driving alone in SUV's. When the SUV is needed its use can be justified. Otherwise more economical methods are available.

There are plenty of economical cars that get double the MPG your SUV does, and they are not hybrid death traps.

my SUV to the new Honda hybrid,

Another difference, Colbalt, is what happens in an accident. If you run your SUV into another SUV, there will be a lot less trauma than if you run your Honda into another Honda. "The smaller the cars, the more trauma to the occupants" is the rule.
