>>The larger world gets its information from a commercial and self-interested media. A controlled media, "managed" up by an oligarchy of individuals and corporations.<<

A typical paranoid perspective...

You can't possibly say that the entire western media is organized in a way to hide and subvert truth. What hogwash. While I believe that in the US that much of the tv newscasts are left-leaning in their reporting and bias but you can find many alternate newsfeeds that will allow truth to be brokered. I also believe that a certain "political correctness" can sometimes serve to hide truth when it becomes "unpopular" with the viewers to cover certain news. This is certainly true in the abortion debate and any news story that attempts to show religion bring brought back into the public square.

I've traveled heavily internationally in my last 20 professional years. By last count I have been to 57 countries - many of them multiple times. I'm a news junkie and always buying newspapers, magazines and watching television in every country I go to. The US has the widest array of news reporting. Only in the US and Europe has the news been mostly pushed off morning tv in favor of "entertaining" news shows. That is entertainment which has tie-ins to current events. Nonetheless, there are plenty of news sources to be found with very good reporting... Some of my favorites from the web:
debka.com
drudgereport.com
cnn.com
bloomberg.com
worldmag.com
