Let me ask you, how would you sell a processor by an unknown firm against an entrenched competitor, if your CPU had higher IPC? How would you show the customer which CPUs have equivalent performance?

I'd rely on deception. I'd produce a benchmark that stressed the operations that I was good at and defeature the operations I was bad at. I'd make a benchmark so phoney that it would make AMD envious.

Whatever happened to the TPI? Still remember that?

Jozef,

Re: "One can make a reasonable criticism that Athlon XP #whatever+ does not
perform faster than Northwood #whatever ..."

Glad to see that you put in a little more effort on your second post on
this topic ... You're initial reply was an embarrassment. So based on Dan3's
"impressive detective" work, AMD must not consider that the Athlon is
competitive with a Northwood. -->

The question I have for you, Jozef -->

1) Why would an unknown processor firm after experiencing the "pain and suffering"
of optimizing their "quantileap architecture" for IPC, turn around
and "do it again" with "DasHumper". Are these guys just asking for
another "ass whoopin", or what? <ggg>

Make It So,
