Yousef,

The question I have for you, Jozef -->

1) Why would an unknown processor firm after experiencing the "pain and suffering" of optimizing their "quantileap architecture" for IPC, turn around and "do it again" with "DasHumper". Are these guys just asking for another "ass whoopin", or what? <ggg>

I think projects like designing CPUs have such a long lead time that it is impossible to switch gears late in the game. The design of Hammer has basically been set probably 3 years before its introduction.

Setting aside the marketing question, more important question is which path will lead to greater performance. And to this question, there may not be only 1 correct answer. It probably depends greatly on where you are starting from.

If you are starting from scratch, which part would you take? Intel's answer with Itanium is the high IPC route.
