Nor that little basic thing about what frequency in what area, empty deserts or crowded inner cities??

AWS will be migrating to 3GSM from 1900 MHz to 1900 MHz (not 850 MHz to 2.1GHz).

As for the "forklift" upgrades you quack about that are requisite to get from circuit-switched voice to all-IP, rich voice, and multiradio, there is probably no carrier in the US that is more in touch with what they want to accomplish, on what time scale, and what the attendant costs will be to add a mobile core network subsystem to their new evolved GSM core (rather than their legacy ANSI-41 core).
