If you choose to believe in the resurrection, I see no reason why, if he died of natural causes, and had more time to make a larger impact on society he could not have been resurrected. I think the role of redeemer just conveniently fit the circumstances....

A further thought....

Wouldn't the story that Jesus saved an adultress from death by stoning give you a strong clue of his attitude toward the death penalty. Also why does the Catholic Church not support the penalty?
