I lost any respect I had for Corporate America when one of the part-time workers in our (self-insured) shop was diagnosed with cancer about five or six years ago. Two weeks later, our HR person announced a change in health-care coverage regarding part-time employees. Of the 90 or so people at our plant, only one person no longer qualified for health-care coverage under the new guidelines. Guess who that one person was. The union went to bat for her and she ended up back in the health plan, but I will NEVER forgive the corporate assholes for putting her through this trauma at this time in her life.
