chojiro, re >Judging by the sentiments of this thread
the real pain has yet to begin.
< I don't think you can judge by sentiment on this thread. Many here understand the industry unusually well and put their faith in FA - however long it takes.

Hi Chojiro,

Well the rates BEGAN with a full point cut Jan 16th 2001.The bulk of the major cuts came more like in the last half of 01.So the 12-18 month lags of the latter (bigger and faster cuts) is just coming in now and the future.

As for what about the people in their 50's - PUULLEASE go lightly there - I just joined the big 50 crowd last month.

But talking about us oldsters is a good idea ,as our generation is quickly inheriting the previous generations wealth and where will that go?

Bonds and there real rate of returnwith after tax impact only provide loss prevention.

The long term return on equities will once again surface to be the best vehicle - albeit with a more conservative screen. This is one of the reasons I like the semi's - they are cyclical but their balance sheets and accounting have been scandal free.

We are simply weathering a down cycle that will resume as new chips with higher performance continue to be created by new economy demands.

It is more a question of when rather than if - that requires patience - an integral aspect of investment.

I'm ok with that - as it allows more accumulation - which is the phase we're in right now.
