I don't agree that we need more policing. We need less policing of laws that have nothing to do with criminality. We need to eliminate victimless crimes by changing laws, not by more repression. That would free up some police for more important tasks.

We also need to restore Canadians rights to defend themselves. To do this, we need to adopt a more classical liberal approach to private property.

we're capable of defending ourselves against whatever threat comes at us, including but not limited to - armed US troops on our home soil

We couldn't defend ourselves from a nutcase with a grudge, never mind an invasion. If we're lucky, we won't have to defend from either. So far, we have been capable of avoiding threats. We may not always be able to do that, and when the time comes, I'd rather have U.S. troops here than Chinese or Russian.

>> what we absolutely must not do, is abdicate our right to freedom by permitting US troops to operate in this land, ever .... not the thinnest edge of the smallest wedge, not once, not ever <<<

I too would prefer a made in Canada solution.I see the forces are currently on a hiring binge with the extra few donero they were begrudgingly handed after 911.Still no helos worth a damn and subs that can only use the name to describe their condition.IE: SUB-standard.-g- The new ships are pretty cool though and passed the test well in the gulf this year. The other boys who went to Afghanistan did us proud and showed we can do the job if given the money and equipment too.

So it all comes down to money marcos. You got those whiney Francophones back East who want to spend our money on festivals every weekend to show the Q's they are actually part of Canada. They need reminding every weekend I ASSume?

We have the outrageous idea that the entire country should be mandatory bi-lingual now.Makes sense.I've met at least ten of them out west here in the past 25 years.-g- Maybe they should just try for mandatory BI-sexual, that seems to be gathering more acceptance.

And yes, we definitely need to double lane the TCH from sea to shining sea,you know, cause the traffic is so damned congested between Calgary and Sudbury.

And we definitely need to upgrade the railway lines now too I guess, since Canada sold it's stake in it's national railway for a song and dance to private interests.Yup. Gotta keep the corporate welfare checks.

Oh, and let's keep subsidizing the Airlines forever while we’re at it.Would'nt want to see the people who use it have to actually pay the full cost of a ticket.Same for VIA rail too, gotta keep those Japanese tourists cost down.

And the RCMP.Yup.Gotta train every one of them the same way,and equip them with a new 100K vehicle every two years, even if they spend the better half of their time parked in the shadow of a small community on the THC to catch people who don't slow down to 50KM from 120KM right away. You just never know who they might stop in Bigger,Sask. I guess.

And it goes on and on and on marcos, with the senior swivel servants really running the show knowing they will out live the ministers in charge for years to come, with absolutely NO fiscal responsibility and answerability to worry about.

But try to get a F&**ing helo, dependable transportation, new combat weapons...desert unibags fer cripes sakes, and it falls somewhere in concern between French Folk festivals and Little Red Mapleleaf Flag giveaways to Africans!

But ooh the reverence - and moments silence to the sound of the lone bugle - and the salutes to the fallen – and the wreath laying - and the visits to Vimmy by people who never heard of it before – and photo ops alongside soldiers in Jungle uni’s after they just come back from the desert – and and and – I’m sick of it.

>>If such an action is being considered, then for sure there must be thorough public debate, yes ... but it saddens me that we have lost our sense of freedom, of the glorious independence we enjoy here, to the extent that any of us would even consider such a thing ... and for a general to suggest it, that should be grounds for court-martial imho, we pay them to defend us, not hand us over on a platter <<

Read above marcos....no one really gives a F*ck anymore as long as their own little nest is clean and tidy.Like I say , I would prefer what you envision , however ,never underestimate the attractiveness of a free lunch and a photo op to Ottawawa and it’s denizens, because untill they themselves ever feel threatened, this is the way it will remain out here in the real world. Ret. Gen. L. Mackenzie tried to tell these assholes for years what the score was, and they canned him for it.Early retirement of the best goddam General this country has ever had!

Rant off.........

Didn't you notice the bulges in their coats? Those firemen were carrying. That was the vanguard, testing the waters and getting familiar with the territory. They probably left some advance scouts behind taking notes, and getting the lay of the land. When they send up the troops, and the armour, they will have a 5th column and all the advance work done. It will be all over. First free trade, then the firemen, then it's lockdown for the poor Canuck peasantry. Just like Guatemala, Honduras, Argentina, Aruba, El Salvador, Nicaragua and soon, Iraq.

I guess the only option since their secret ally Trudeau took away our weapons, is to get to like the taste of new Coke or whatever it is they drink down there.
