Cell phone sales should get a boost...

"School cell-phone ban lifted"
>Gov. Gray Davis signed legislation Wednesday rescinding a 1988 law that banned cell phones on school grounds. The bill, sponsored by Sen. Liz Figueroa, D-Fremont, gives individual school districts the power to decide whether they want students to be able to use their ``cells'' or ``mobiles.'' The ban, created during an era when cell phones and pagers were largely associated with drug dealing, will be lifted Jan. 1.<

"Wang pointed out that inventory of electronics products in the second quarter has greatly decreased from previous quarters."

Well, Duh! Of course it has but it's not good news. Look at the next paragraph. "Global monthly IC shipments reached 30 billion units in June this year, achieving 90% of the levels during the market peak in October 2000."

Unit shipments are 90% of peak but revs and earnings are in the gutter. Inventory is measured in $$ and ASPs are down due to massive overcapacity. If inventory were measured in units, I wonder how much higher they would be now than for the same Oct 2000 comparison period.
