Clark,

<< the two things that Qualcomm could do to increase throughput on the downlink would be smart antennas and better compression (both of which they talked about in the last Q CC). >>

Ed Tiedemann of Qualcomm Europe SARL recently (June 25) briefly summarized the 3GPP2 cdma2000 Release C (DV) enhancements that provide peak data rates of 3.09 Mbps in the forward link (451.2 kbps in the reverse) as new forward link channels for packet data, shared, with adaptative modulation and coding, asynchrous retransmission, a newly introduced data and a control channel in the forward link, and two new channels, for ACK and for channel quality reporting in the reverse link.

He went on to state that although there haven't been any formal decision, dates or work plan for a further Release it seems clear that there will be a Release D and that the main topics of this new Release would be Multicast (similar to 3GPP MBMS), Reverse Link Enhancements, and Multiple Antenna.
