Uh, the FCC evaluated OFDM for ATSC and found it didn't offer anything we don't already have.

"DTV isn't that much more cost-demanding than a 3G handset."

If the US had chosen to switch to OFDM after four years of selling receivers to consumers, broadcasters would be faced with one of two choices:

Reduce average power, coverage, and ad revenue.

Expand utility power consumption by 25% and maintenance headaches after adding a quarter of a million dollars worth of power FETs in nice refrigerator-sized cabinets.
