Try this approach :

In the worst case (last) US elections, nobody took to the streets, no riots etc. Powerful civility, strong democratic base all over the electorate. A hiccup not turned into an ulcer. That month fight between basically two winners was a beauty IMO.
After all it does not matter who got the job, democracy won, and the next round will correct the coin spinning if need be.

Israel : however both electorate are miles apart on civilization issues, the PM, whoever he is, has to conduct a foreign war inland, but is ready for a peace. Even Sharon. Imagine, a guy who was physically part of all wars, 6 (?); what better destiny can he dream of but to sign the end to the conflict.
If he succeeds, Jewish history will remember him as next to Ben Gour Ion, who signed none, next to Kind David.

Chirac's destiny is funnier. Seven years ago he proposes parlementary elections out of the blue, losses them massively, and because of foreign populations issues, comes back now with an 80% victory and no policy for the future, no vision either.
How cruel. For him.
The core of the problem was that the communist electorate has turned far right, le Pen, thus the Socialists lost.

But all in all democracy is safe as in the last generation, the extremes left and right have been cornered. Thus you can't have a real center.

I haven't voted in any of the French or Israelis elections, and had I been American, I would have abstained too.
Let the majority decide was my motto. I'd rather observe.

Next ones ?
