Unfortunately they cut off the rest of Q&A.

Not sure why....but my webcast continued to play.

I didnt take notes so this is from memory.

- They expect Q-Chat to go commercial in '03. Verizon and PCS can use other vendors but didnt they would be as good.

- Investment in carriers will decline going forward....especially in '04/'05.

- They expect 1xEV-DV to roll-out in '05. They mentioned something about chipset development.

- Mentioned the fact that they are working with most (all?) of the European manufacturers on W-CDMA trials. They are trying to push the standard forward. There was some mention of carriers requesting that W-CDMA handsets be based on Qualcomm's chipsets.

There was probably more....but this is what I can remember. Hopefully, the Q&A will be available in the replay.

"Q&A: Update on 6200 chip? GSM/CDMA and 6300 chip? GSM 1X chip?

Unfortunately they cut off the rest of Q&A."

I was able to catch some of the answers. Of note, he said that European operators were using 6200 chips in test phones of their network and they were booking revenue (miniscule by inference) from it. Something else about expecting a GSM/1X (6300) utilization in Asia first and then in later in Europe as well. Sounded as if he knew something and it was more than hopeful musing.

Disclaimer, I heard this between shaving and catching the phone and answering an instant message.

Tom: Q & A continued after chip discussion, the following are my hurried notes.

There was discussion regarding BREW as complement to JAVA, I noted nothing new of consequence.

Discussion of QCHAT and exclusive arrangement with Nextel
with commercial launch scheduled for 03. VZ and PCS looking at alternatives.

QSI has 800 M of forward commitments. Expectation is that future investment needs will decline. It was interesting to note that in presentation portion Thornley noted that there were looking at disposition of anticipated future positive operating cash flow.

Pegaso will close very soon at 400-500 M.

Looking to future expect to be free cash flow positive. In future considering options of what to do with cash.

Thought this was the most interesting comment. Could this lead analysts to ask about dividends in year-end conference call?

Also from the following article, biz.yahoo.com, Thornley is quoted as saying "...the replacement phone market is becoming increasingly more important. 'The most important part of our business is how we can drive the replacement market.'"

What do these two things have in common? In my view they are functions of a shift from a "growth" mentality to a "value" mentality. And most of the equity market thinking (the average analyst and investor) hasn't made this shift in thinking yet.
