Oh, I don't think he's stupid either. In a perverse sort of way Saddam is positively brilliant. However, as one of our correspondents related, Saddam overplays his hand. He could not win at poker.

Here is my sincere response to your question: I don't think Iraq's oil is the underlying motive for our policy towards Iraq. I think it is only a matter of time before alternative sources of energy will be developed to the point where Saddam's pathetic little reserves will become irrelevant.

If I EVER found out that the whole thing was a scam for Texans to get rich on Arab oil, I would hound the culprits out of office (so far as I'm able, which is probably less than average since I don't go to political meetings.) However, having a whole bunch of port-siders whining about ulterior motives for the President's policy towards Iraq is NOT GOING TO CUT IT!
