The primary people pushing the war- Perle, Wolfowitz, and company- are self-described neocons, and I can hardly see that as a pejorative label. The other term I used once, which I shouldn't have, you ought to look up the definition, though . Say dictionary.com or dictionary.cambridge.org*1+0 . Seems to fit pretty well.

There are many things that can be done to contain Iraq. But there's not a lot of apparent interest in alternatives inside the WH. Take it from the Prince of Darkness himself:

"The failure to take on Saddam after what the president said," Mr. Perle said, "would produce such a collapse of confidence in the president that it would set back the war on terrorism." Or: Nice little administration you have here; pity if something should happen to it. nytimes.com

Having done their best to get W painted in a corner, Perle and friends are no doubt quite pleased with themselves. And no, Schroeder's position is not my position. He has other constraints.

Q: On Iraq, I first understood you to say no unilateral action in Iraq. Then later you seemed to say Germany will not participate in an attack or help pay for one no matter what the U.N. says. Which is it?

A: Let me begin by saying that without a U.N. Security Council mandate, our Constitution would not permit any form of participation. That is quite clear.
