The World, before 9/11, could not conceive of a handful of guys armed only with box cutters could do billions of dollars of damage and kill some 3000 people. Our nukes and spy satellites didn't do a damn bit of good in stopping them. Are you suggesting that Hussein does not have at least the same resources and capabilities as bin Laden? He has factories and armies and scientists and financial resources. He also isn't forced to hide in caves, on the run from the US Army. I don't know about you, but I think he could accomplish quite a bit that could endanger us. That said, what Bush needs to show Daschle, Schroder and the UN is that Hussein is still developing, manufacturing, storing or deploying WMDs and that there is a reasonable basis to conclude he plans to use them or supply them to others who would use them (why else would he build them?). Then our Congress, our allies and the UN need to turn up the heat on Hussein. There's some heat now, but nothing like the heat he'll feel from a broadly backed ultimatum - one that has a real "or else" for him to ponder. At that point, because I don't think he is suicidal, we will get a diplomatic resolution. That is what the world is going to want us to explain. Can you help us out? If Bill could produce the evidence to make Bush's case, I doubt he could post it here without planning to spend a few years in a federal pen. Why don't we just see what Daschle, Schroder and the UN have to say over the next week or so, after they hear Bush's case? Until then, all this chatter is just idle speculation about what evidence he might have and how many people he might convince. As for Cheney, he may have gone too far in saying we want Hussein gone no matter what. But for now, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and figure he was sent out to be the bad cop. Note that the official White House position is "the President hasn't decided." Vice Presidents sometimes get the dirty work. Now I can't wait to see what kind of juvenile retort you are going to pull out of your limited bag of tricks. Something new and creative, I hope. PS: I'm glad you and HJ are so concerned about my employment. It really warms my heart to know you care. But don't worry. My CFO duties are only part time for now - it's a rather small startup at this point. I did get some editing done on some HR documents and got a legal issue resolved so I could finish an offering memorandum, so it wasn't a toal slacker day. But HJ is probably right - you and he ARE a waste of time.
