The "October Surprise" stuff has, allegedly, been roundly debunked. Except, of course, there's this Occam's razor problem about why, exactly, Iran would choose to release the hostages almost the moment Jimmy Carter left office. I don't know who "consortiumnews.com" is. The last link is from the Walsh report, though it's not clear what it has to do with the "October Surprise" stuff.

Focusing on GHWB's presence was probably a mistake in that particular investigation, or what investigation there ever really was. I'm sure there's a story to be told somewhere in there, but it's pretty doubtful it'll see the light of day in plaintext form anytime soon. I doubt even the files W is locking down tell for the foreseeable future tell anything like the real story there.

Pearly,

As much as any of the conspiracy theorists.

Remember - when Bush lost the 92 election the reason was - '(its) the economy stupid'. When Carter lost his 80 election - the horrid state of the economy, double digit interest, high inflation and unemployment - it had to be a CIA foreign power consipracy!

Makes me laugh.

I have never seen a US election hinge on foreign policy or foreign influence. Its always domestic pocketbook (exception '68 - believe it or not many crossed over to Nixon as a protest on the Dems support of the Vietnam war).
