Boy! Did Norman Mailer hit it on the head...

""Clinton made a point of surrounding himself with people who might be 90% as intelligent as himself, but never his equal. Bush is smart enough to know that he couldn't possibly do the same, or the country would be run by morons."

How come he's still a Republican?

In 1984 he was the presidential candidate for the Libertarian Party. He was a Republican before that, so he's flip flopped around a little bit. He didn't seek out the candidacy, he was approached by the "guys in suits" faction of the LP when it looked like the former AIM activist Russell Means would get the nomination. Means had been involved in the Wounded Knee incident, and some guys in the party thought it would make for bad PR to have him on the ticket.

Too bad Means didn't get the nomination. I mean, here was a guy who gave stemwinder speeches while dressed up in full Injun regalia and had actually raised up arms against the federales and lived to tell about it. Now THAT would have been a memorable campaign!

Dear Ray: That is so much HOOIE. Its what we call Pie in the Sky thinking. Face it, the world is made up of a lot of nice people and a few stinkers. Those stinkers get in power cause they are willing to step on others to achieve their goals. Being a nice guy isnt going to control them. They do understand the point of a bayonet though. THATS what keeps the peace, not FLOWER CHILDREN. JDN
