Kap,

re: Did anybody notice that the commodities index (CRB) went from the low of 180 in September to 227 today -- a whopping over 30% increase? The next market nervous breakdown will be over the realization that Alan Green Spam can't lower rates anymore because of the resizing prices.

Unusual for commodity prices to go up in a contracting economy, no? Look for the cause, not the effect.

John

Kap,

Did anybody notice that the commodities index (CRB) went from the low of 180 in September to 227 today -- a whopping over 30%

But the low of September 2001 was a multiyear low, combined with 9/11 and the fact that the US economy just concluded 3 quarters of contraction (in September 2001).

I don't see CPI or PPI indicating anything alarming, and I don't see Greenspan cutting rates (with or without the CRB constraint).

What is your conclusion?

Joe
