although you know me less well than, say, my wife or my more intimate friends, you know me better than most of my acquaintances. Really? All we here know is what you choose to share with us. Acquaintances may see aspects of you that you don't choose to share. They may know you as a community leader, a role you have not shared here. Or they may know you as a drunk with seven DUIs and two maimed children left in your wake, also roles you have not shared here. Not that I think you are that. But nor do I have any independent evidence which would suggest that you are not. So I would say that we may know the face you decide to present here well, we really have little if any idea who the real you is.

Ok- I'm guessing here, but in person I doubt you go on at great length about things. I bet you parse your comments on interesting topics- to meet the body language interest level of your listener. I suspect you are funnier in person. I think you are probably wittier and warmer. None of these things came across for me in your posts, in the past. I don't know any of this for certain- but based on other people I have met in 3d it is what I suspect, but cannot know. I think in a way I do not know you "better". You may think I do- but I really don't. I know the highly filtered version of your thoughts you put out here on SI- but if we had lunch together for a few hours, and chatted real time- without the ability to edit our words, and without the ability to think about what we were saying for long periods before we said it, I would know you better than having read you for years on SI. That is simply my opinion.
