KB,
I'm going to study your question overnight and see if I can come up with a better answer - my brain has a simmer setting that tends to cook up better results when done slowly.

In the meanwhile, my off-the-top-of-my-head explanation is that individual daily readings are meaningless (just as individual oscillator readings tend to be less meaningful than their trend) and that you have to use the trend i.e. moving average to make sense of what is going on.
