Dualies are just a desperate attempt to keep up with AMD/Intel.

You can say that again.

Dualies also require a more complicated, faster bus which they don't seem to have yet.

I thought the Xserve's introduced a new faster bus, and the new dualies have that as well.

even so my buddies 933 on OSX is not much faster than my 350/9.xx on most things. I my opinion, the dualies don't pack much more power in general

you need to get out more..... if you mean a 933 is not much faster than 350 mhz for email, then you are right, and you are right for OSX or 9.X, either way, what in the world do you want with a pro machine if you are just doing this? just get an imac and don't worry about speed...... it is plenty fast for you....

if you really are doing pro type of work, then a 933 running 9.X or OSX is far faster than a 350 mhz machine, and a DUAL 1 Ghz is even faster....... all apps that need speed are set up to optimize the CPU, whether it is dual or not.... and they are all updated, or they are not really a competitive pro product..... if your app is not doing this, then you do not have a Pro type app from a company that needs speed for their apps....

that is not an opinion, that is fact.....

I my opinion, the dualies don't pack much more power in general

by the way, a 1.5 ghz Mac will only run at about 90% the speed of a 2.8 ghz Pentium4, when doing apps like photoshop that need speed...

but a Dual 1.25 Ghz machine far surpases a single 2.8 Ghz pentium4.......

Dual machines are far superior, i do 3D Cad, and Dual machines are the only way to go, until a Quad machine is out...... believe me, for power hungry apps, Dual Machines pack a whole heck of a lot more punch.... i have both....
