8-9 years ago is a lifetime these days. A few years ago things were fairly cheap vs USD. I go to Canada between 8-10 times a year for both work and vacation. Many vacationers from Quebec used to visit the New England coast in the summer. But the last 2 years there have been less do to currency exchange. Also, if you are willing to give up you recepits you can get your GST back.

Yiwu, I just walked out across the street in downtown TO, about 50 feet from the exchange tower. I saw a sign in a window , Breakfast, bacon and eggs, toast and coffee , $3.50. What's that, ? about 2.25 US. In the US , they brag in the windows about 6.95 or more like 12.95, which if you add 50% is CDN comparable. I'm not talking Manhattan where $12.95 US gets you bacon and eggs.
