Since Bush broke with him, it is obvious that the ME has given up on him and he is on the way out. The big news of the last 60 days is that the Pals have lost the war. Our refusal to deal with Arafat will be revealed by History to be a major step in this victory, IMO.

Our ability to construct replacement regimes that are both friendly to us and capable of governing remains open to a great deal of doubt.

We don't need them friendly, just not openly hostile. I don't expect or care if the Islamists like us. I just want them to respect and fear us, rather than to be contemptuous of us, as they have been for the last 20 years.

Supporting argument?

I think the way the Arabs folded once Bush announced we would not deal with Arafat is a good example of what we can accomplish. The thing I keep reading here and in the media is fear. Fear of the Arab street. Fear of Arab backlash. Fear, Fear, Fear. We are at War. Time for a little "Patton."
