There can only be settlement in the Middle East if education is used as a tool for peace instead of war. Period. That is children should be not taught to kill and maim. If goodwill and education is used, I'd say in about a generation, the troubles in the Middle East can be overcome (about 30 yrs).

Good post and thanks, PB (what a shock that I should think so, eh?)

One point about the Israeli deportations that the BBC did not report -- the family members weren't deported just for being family members, they were proved accomplices, the sister sewed the bomb belt used by the brother. Why the Israelis didn't just chuck them in jail as terrorists instead of going through this fuss, I don't understand.

Beautifully stated.

People are people, no matter where we go and what we do. We all have individual hopes and aspirations for better lives for ourselves and our families. Unfortunately, these aspirations are often "kidnapped" by the aspirations of evil people who would try and convince us that THEIR goals are more important than ours (or that once they get theirs, we'll get ours).

And corrupt and tyrannical leaders seldom have the inclination at spending their time creating prosperity and opportunity for their people. And when they do, it's generally only for the cynical purpose of preventing their being overthrown.

Education is the key. Only through education can people receive not only the skills to better their lives, but also the wisdom and tolerance that teaches them how to interact with the rest of the world.

No educational program should be centered around wanton violence against civilians.

With this I agree, but neither side will tolerate either goodwill or honest education. Each is too convinced that their own light is the "proper" one.
