Let me ask this- re: Itanium, what would be the O/S you would use with an Itanium box, Linux?

If Itanium gets on its feet and looks like a high-performance high-end winner that can power both high-volume desktops and high-end high-margin servers, that's too many 'highs' for our good friends in Redmond not to be all over it like white on rice. The minute Itanium looks like it's going to get any traction (which for all I know may already have happened), MSFT will put armies on 64-bit versions of Windows XP and tools and .NET services and whatever else.

That's the danger.

IBM will push Linux and Linux will figure, but IMHO the biggest threat to Sun posed by Itanic is that it can fire the stage 3 Wintel booster.
