Cheney is 100% wrong about conservation not being able to do much to ease energy use. And there is no need to make any major change in lifestyle. I convinced a large restaurant here to replace sixty 75 watt bullet lights with the equivalent compact fluorescents that draw 25 watts. They are on 14 hours a day, 7 days a week. At 8 cents a kilowatt hour, he was paying 151.20 every 30 days, just for those lights. He saves 100 dollars a month on that, plus he saves energy again by not having to remove the waste heat from the old lights with the air conditioning. Here in South Texas the air runs about 8 months out of the year. He is more pleased with the color of the light, and the place ic cooler because those old lights aren't continuously heating up the place. Oh. btw, he doesn't have the job of going around once a week to replace burned out incandescent bulbs because the cfs last about 5 years.

So the bulbs cost him about $300, and counting the saved AC he saves about $200 a month. for a return on investment of 66% PER MONTH. Is that a good deal for everybody, or what? It's a no-brainer, but the Cheney/Bush team must not get it, because they have not said a peep to encourage the American people to take this very simple step, which would save enormous amounts of energy. And we didn't even get into the energy efficient appliances, insulation, caulking, etc. The right wingers are wrong again, and the math proves it.
