It'll be interesting to see how the Tandem group fares at HPQ. As I understand it, they were in the process of converting over to the Alpha after being bought by Compaq; now, one merger later, they've apparently changed direction and will attempt an Itanium implementation. That kind of switching has to be tough on the economics and, ultimately, the customers.

JMHO.

Rudedog, Starus is still in business. They were acquired as part of one of Ascend Communications acquistions at the time I owned and followed that stock. I can't remember who they got it from. They were taken private by an investment group and NEC picked up part of it. Later, Compaq and Intel and another Investment group invested in it.

As of September 9 they launched a fault tolerant 4 way Intel
server with the 2.4 Ghz Xeon. They market mostly Intel servers running Windows 2000, but also HP-Unix servers using the HP PA Risc chip. They are also licensing their technology. You can find them at Stratus.com.
