The enemies shooting at them were guerillas fighting for colonialists out of Vietnam and/or communist domination of Vietnam, take your pick, and who not incidentally were supplied by a superpower, which all in all made our force less than overwhelming. Say, do you think China will build a guerilla army in Iraq?
