I would think picking up I-10 is the most direct route. Maybe they're factoring in road work?

Does the software have you heading south at Amarillo then southwest on highway 70? That's a pretty direct way, but there's a whole of nothing on that road. And the nothingness is broken up by feedlot/slaughterhouse towns like Hereford and Bovina. It starts to get nice a little after Roswell....
