I heard there was some civil strife during independence and separation. I didn't realise it was such a huge catastrophe. One million deaths. My god!

In the course of that tragic exodus of innocents, some 1 million people were slaughtered in communal massacres that made all previous conflicts of the sort known to recent history pale by comparison. Sikhs, caught in the middle of Punjab's new "line," suffered the highest percentage of casualties.

That's it, blame someone else for the slaughter. God, that is so "India!" Well, if they have a "Trial," there will be no shortage of "Guilty European Liberals" who will come to India, get on their knees, and cry, "Mea Culpa, Mea Culpa!"
