GST, one year ago, many in the Bush administration, not to mention many pundits in the press, wonks in think tanks and self-proclaimed experts on message boards ( Message 16356528 ), were saying we should include Iraq in the War on Terror. Our potential coalition partners and long-standing allies said "No, take care of Afghanistan first." That's the message they conveyed back to Bush through Powell. The debate has continued since then, but the world was not interested in hearing the case against Iraq. Well, Afghanistan is in clean-up and rebuild mode, and Bush has taken the world from "there's no reason to attack Iraq" to "Iraq had better get with the program or suffer severe consequences." Someone on this thread said a year ago regarding the War on Terror, including on Iraq, that "I think we are looking at a year to make substantial progress." I see this as progress. You just pick nits.
